A Maharastrian dish, which gets cooked in every house on daily basis. It is a one pot meal which it easy to cook and tastes awesome. Everyone has their own version of making it and here, I’m sharing mine.

Serves: 2-3 people

Ingredients:
1 Cup rice
1/4 cup Toor daal ( washed, soak for atleast 30 min then boil it for 10 min)
3/4  chopped Onion or one small onion
1  finely chopped tomato
3 Garlic cloves
1/4 inch ginger
1/4 Tsp Mustard seeds
1/2 Tsp cumin seeds
1/4 Tsp Turmeric
2 Tsp red chilli powder
1/2 tsp Garam masala powder
or
2 1/2 Tsp kala masala
7-8 Curry leaves
very little peanuts
2 Tbsp oil
2 Cup and 2/4 cup water
Salt for taste
3-4 Tbsp Coriander leaves

Method:
Make  ginger garlic paste. In a cooker, heat oil and make tempering with mustard and cumin seeds. Add chopped onion, saute till it becomes transparent. Add ginger garlic paste, saute till its raw smell goes off. add tomatoes cook until it gets mushy and leaves oil from sides. meanwhile wash rice and drain all water from it, drain water from cooked daal. Now add all other ingredients, add rice and mix well. saute for 2-3 minutes, now add water, boiled daal, salt and mix well. Cover the lid and cook till one whistle. Remove cooker from gas and let the steam o by itself. Open the lid and add chopped coriander, mix well and serve hot with roasted papad, chutney, pickle or with kadhi.

Tips:
1)Boiling daal is important as it will get cooked completely.
2)Wash rice just before adding it to the oil. If you keep washed rice for long time it will break and will become very soggy after cooking.
