Pfeiffer Beach, one of the most popular stretches of sand along the Big Sur coast, is famous for its purple-hued sand also wonderful rock formations. It is a perfect for a picnic and sand play, but you can’t swim there as the waves are too strong. You get a great picture opportunities here, specially Sunset.
This beach is hard to find so keep an eye on the map and be prepared to travel down a long and winding road to get to the beach. It is about 2 miles of windy unpaved road with many areas being single-lane car driving with pull offs to let other cars by. Drive safely and be courteous.
We went in Sept, It was windy and cold. I will suggest to carry layers as the sun goes down it gets very cold. Try to come early too to get parking spot. Also if possible avoid long weekends, it gets crowded and the waiting times can be minutes to hours.
