‘Guru Poornima’ is a festival when we pay respects to our teachers, spiritual gurus and express our gratitude. I also worship “Shri Swami Samartha Maharaj” who’s actually one of the avatar of god ‘Dattatreya’ and whom I worship as a guru. On this day many people do fasting, I also do. Today, I made this Japanese yam halwa/Ratalyacha sheera as a fasting food, which is packed with dietary fiber and vitamin C. Also it is perfect for those, who got bored eating sago/sabudana.
Ingredients:
5 medium size sweet potato/japanese yam/ Ratali
2-3 Tbsp ghee
1 Cup warm milk
1-2 Tsp sugar or as per desired
1/2 Tsp green cardamom powder
pinch of saffron soaked in 2 Tbsp warm milk(optional)
1-2 Tbsp dry fruits

Method:
Wash sweet potatoes and boil it in enough water till it’s completely cooked. Let it cool, peel off the skin and mash it. In a kadhai heat ghee, add mashed sweet potato and saute on high heat till it becomes golden(it may take few minutes).
Add warm milk while stirring continuously. let it cook for a while till the mixture becomes thick.
Add sugar, cardamom powder mix well. Now add saffron milk, dry fruits, mix well and let it cook for another 2 minutes. serve hot or chilled.
