3/4 Cup rice
1/4 Tsp Shahi jeera
1/4 of big onion or 1/2 of small onion
2 Garlic cloves
1/4 Tsp ginger
1/4 Cup green peas (I used fresh green peas)
2 -3 Whole black pepper
1 Bay leaf
salt as per taste
Coriander for garnishing
1-2 Tbsp clarified butter/ desi ghee/ any cooking oil
1 1/2 cup water (1-3 Tbsp water if only rice is old)
In a vessel, heat oil. Add shahi jeera, now add sliced onion, ginger garlic paste and saute till it becomes golden. Add remaining ingredients and saute for a while. Meanwhile wash rice 3-5 times or till water comes clean. Add into the vessel and saute for 1-2 minutes. Now add water, add salt, mix well. Cover the lid and let it cook on slow flame till rice cooks completely. Garnish with chopped coriander and serve.
Pressure cooker method:
Follow all the steps mentioned in the recipe, close the lid of pressure cooker and cook on medium low heat till 1 whistle. Let the steam come out on it’s own. Garnish with chopped coriander and serve.
Rice cooker method:
Follow all the steps mentioned in the recipe, close the lid and select white rice option if you have. Let it cook till rice cooker beeps (most of rice cooker has notification system when cooking is done). Let the rice rest for 10-15 minutes then garnish with chopped coriander and serve.
1) If using rice cooker. Saute everything in another vessel as rice cooker take too much time for heating and sauteing.
Sauteing in another vessel on gas will save the cooking time.
