We celebrated Makar Sakranti last month.  Makar Sakranti marks the transition of the sun into the zodiacal sign of Makara (Capricorn) on its celestial path which is the first change in the zodiac after the winter solstice. In Maharashtra we traditionally make Sesame jaggery laddu/ Tilache ladu to celebrate this festival. But this year I wanted to make something innovative and more healthy as I’m avoiding sugar as much I can. I’ve made sugar free  Dates Nuts roll and Walnuts Dates roll in the past, So I came up with the same idea and started to make Sesame dates laddu which I definitely liked. The taste of these laddu is definitely different but it gives a festival feeling in a healthy way!! 😛

Ingredients:
1/2 Cup dates(chopped finely)
1/3rd Cup roaste Sesame seeds
1/4th Tsp green cardamom powder

Method:
Heat a nonstick pan on low flame, add chopped dates and crush it using spatula to make it soft. Once it is all mushy and almost like thick puree, add roasted sesame seeds. Add cardamom powder and mix well to blend everything together. Remove from the heat, let it cool for a minute.  Divide the mixture into 12- 15 equal parts and make a ball out of it and enjoy a sweet treat for a festival.

Tips:
1) If dates are little hard soak them into warm water (3 Tbsp Water)  for 30 minutes. If still they are hard to chop, simply put it into blender with the same water and make coarse puree. But it will need some more cooking to make a thick puree and get desired consistency.
2) To save time , one can use mixer grinder to crush it.
