Bhogi is a festival which is celebrated in the month of January, it’s a first day of four day festival of Makar Sankranti. It is known as Lohri in north, Pongal in south. Bhogi is celebrated in honor of the Lord Indra (the God of rains and clouds), people seek his blessings for an abundant harvest and prosperity. The second day is the Makar Sankranti day which is celebrated with social festivities such as colourful decorations, going house to house and offering each other sweet treat which is Tilache Laddu(sweet Sesame balls made of jaggery and Sesame). Sesame and jaggery is consumed specially in the winter as it creates heat in the body. For more healthy option one can have these sugar free sesame dates laddu.

Bhogichi bhaji is served with Bajrichi bhakari/ bajara roti mixed with sesame seeds.

Ingredients:
1/2 Cup Val papdi, washed and cleaned
1/4th Cup surati papadi(optional) washed and cleaned
1 Medium Potato, washed and cut it into cubes
1/4th Cup green peas, cleaned and washed
4-6 Drumsticks/Shevgyachya shenga, cleaned and washed, cut into small pieces
1-2 Small Brinjals/Vangi, washed and cut it 4
1/2 Tsp Ginger garlic paste
1/2 Tsp Coriander powder
1/2 Tsp Cumin seeds
1/4 th tsp turmeric

1/4th tsp sesame seeds

1 Tsp Kala Masala/Goda Masala
Pinch of Hing
1 Tbsp Oil

Method:

In a Kadhai heat oil, add cumin seeds, let it splutter. Add ginger garlic paste saute until it’s raw smell goes off. Add potatoes and drumsticks, saute for a while. Add turmeric, hing and kala masala. Add all the remaining veggies, and mic it well. Add salt, coriander powder, sesame seeds and mix well. Cover and cook it for 10 minutes or until all vegetables are cooked properly.
